Facing Off
The Rutgers men's lacrosse (1-1) team plays its third-straight home game to start the season, taking on Wagner Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. on the RU Turf Field at the Stadium Complex. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a close 11-9 loss to Air Force Feb. 16, while Wagner suffered a season-opening loss to Providence on Feb. 15.
Scouting the Wagner Seahawks
The Seahawks are 0-1 to start the 2013 campaign, falling to BIG EAST foe Providence, 17-6, on Feb. 15.
Rutgers holds an undefeated 4-0 record all-time against Wagner in a series that started in 2009. Last season, the Scarlet Knights notched a 9-5 win over the Seahawks on the road (Feb. 21).
Attackman Griffin Leclaire leads the offensive charge for Wagner, tallying a goal and an assist against the Friars in the opener. Defensively, GK Nicholas Gibaldi recorded 20 saves against Providence.
Scarlet Knights Drop 11-9 Contest to Air Force
Despite a late surge, the Rutgers men's lacrosse team fell to Air Force, 11-9, at the RU Turf Field at the Stadium Complex, Saturday. The Scarlet Knights were led by freshmen A Scott Bieda (Bridgewater, N.J.) and M Jacob Coretti (E. Grand Rapids, Mich.), who both netted two goals. Junior A Nick DePaolera (Kinnelon, N.J.) posted another five-point game, tallying a career-high five assists after opening the season with five goals against Manhattan (Feb. 10).
Balanced Attack-Man
DePaolera has been strong in all phases of the offense this season for RU. He showed off his scoring skills against Manhattan (Feb. 10) by posting a career-high five goals. He followed that up by providing the helpers against Air Force (Feb. 16), notching a career-best five assists. He leads the team in goals (5), assists (5) and points with 10.
Giving it his All-eyne
Freshman GK Kris Alleyne (New City, N.Y.) recorded an impressive 19 saves in the loss to Air Force to keep the Scarlet Knights in the game. In the opener against Manhattan, he allowed just six goals. He currently holds an 8.25 GAA with a .667 save percentage.
Facing Off
Sophomore Joseph Nardella (Cazenovia, N.Y.) has been dominant in the faceoff circle through two games. The specialist is 35-47 (.745 percent) this season, including a 21-24 performance against Manhattan in the opener.
