
Rutgers Field Hockey Tops Lafayette, 2-1

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 29, 2013) - The Rutgers field hockey team picked up a thrilling 2-1 victory over Lafayette in Easton, Pa., Sunday. With the game tied at 1-1, sophomore Katie Champion (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) netted the game-winning goal with just 3:02 remaining.
The Scarlet Knights improved to 4-5 overall, while the Leopards fell to 3-6. GK Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.) tallied four saves in 70:00 minutes in the cage. Champion, junior Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) and freshmen Sarah Regn (Shamong, N.J.) and Sofia Walia (Surrey, British Columbia) each recorded shots on goal.
Lafayette notched its only score of the game 14:36 into the first half from Kelsey Gula.
At the 20:49 mark, RU knotted the contest at 1-1 on a goal from Regn. It was Regn's second goal of the season.
The game would remain scoreless until Champion capitalized with a goal off a penalty corner with just 3:02 left for her second goal of 2013. The Scarlet Knights would hold on for the final minutes to come out victorious.
Rutgers next takes on BIG EAST opponent Villanova in Villanova, Pa., on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
