PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 8, 2013) - In a tightly-contested contest, the Rutgers field hockey team dropped a double-overtime loss to No. 10 Duke, 3-2, at the Bauer Track & Field Complex Sunday. Freshman Ashpal Kaur Bhogal (Leeds, England) and sophomore Nicole Imbriaco (Clark, N.J.) found the back of the cage for the Scarlet Knights.
The Blue Devils (3-1) opened the scoring, posting a goal 5:39 into the game. Rutgers (2-2) answered as Bhogal fired one past Duke GK Lauren Blazing from just inside the circle for her second goal of 2013.
After another Blue Devils' goal, Imbriaco notched her first score of the season, putting one in off of a baseline crossing pass from sophomore Katie Champion (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) to knot the contest at 2-2 just 12:29 into the contest.
The game remained scoreless through the remainder of the first half. Both teams had opportunities in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the cage.
Following a scoreless first sudden victory, Duke closed the match with a goal by Cherry Seaborn coming 2:51 into the second sudden victory period.
The Scarlet Knights are back in action at Siena in Albany, N.Y., on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
