Game Notes
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 30, 2014) - This weekend the Scarlet Knights will conclude the regular season with a two-game homestand. On Friday RU will host Indiana at 1 p.m. for a vital conference match as part of alumni/letter winner appreciation day. On Sunday, the regular season finale against Penn will serve as Senior Day, where Rutgers will recognize its two seniors - Jenn Staab and Sophie Wright. It will also be Junior Knights Day.
Big Ten Tournament
Pending the results of this weekend's action, Rutgers is on the verge of qualifying for the Big Ten Tournament. A berth in the conference tournament would be the program's first postseason appearance since the 2010 BIG EAST Tournament and just the second conference tournament appearance for Rutgers since 2003. The Scarlet Knights will earn a bid to the conference championship with either a win Friday against Indiana or a loss by Ohio State in its game versus Michigan Sunday.
So Long, Seniors
Rutgers will honor two senior captains prior to Sunday's regular season finale.
- Jenn Staab has made 68 starts in her 70 games played. She has notched five defensive saves in her career, the most among the Scarlet Knights. She has also scored one goal and added seven assists in her career, and was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in 2012.
- Sophie Wright settled in to the starting lineup as a sophomore and has started in each of her past 53 games. She has notched 18 goals scored and 41 points, both totals being the most of any current player while in a Scarlet Knights uniform. Last season, Sophie was recognized as a member of the All-BIG EAST Second Team and was placed on the Longstreth/NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.
"They've had an invaluable impact on the team and the program, and really helped shape type of culture we wanted here. They embody the personality and character traits that we want in our players and in the Rutgers Field Hockey team. They are a shining example of that. I'm really proud of the legacy that they will leave."
- Head Coach Meredith Long
