Durando, Landrith named to AAC All-Tourney Team

HOUSTON, Texas (May 12, 2014) - A pair of Rutgers softball players were named to the American Athletic Conference Softball Championship All-Tournament Team, the league announced Sunday at the conclusion of the tournament. Junior left-hander Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) and senior Alexis Durando (Oakland, N.J.) were each named to the squad after guiding the Scarlet Knights to a 5-1 win over Houston in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, May 8.
Landrith (17-8) tossed a complete-game two-hitter against the Cougars to send RU to the semifinals, allowing just one run and striking out three. She wrapped up the year with a 2.45 ERA and 186 strikeouts in 177.0 innings pitched.
Durando led the charge offensively for the Scarlet Knights, hitting a grand slam in the sixth inning to secure the 5-1 win. The grand slam was the second of her career and gave her four RBIs for the game, which tied her career-high. She ended the year with a .298 batting average, five doubles, five home runs and a team-high 34 walks.
Rutgers' 28-19 record and .596 winning percentage rank among the best marks in recent school history. The 2014 team's winning percentage is the highest since the 1995 team went 30-17 (.638).
