Rutgers Field Hockey Falls at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio (October 9, 2015) -
In the team's first nationally televised game of the season, Rutgers field hockey fell 3-0 to Ohio State at Buckeye Varsity Field. The loss drops Rutgers to 6-6, (0-5 Big Ten), while the Buckeyes improve to 7-4, 3-1.

"It was a tight game as far as possession and opportunities," head coach Meredith Civico said. "We did not finish on the opportunities we created and Ohio State did and that was the difference today."

Ohio State got the first goal of the game just over ten minutes into action. Maddy Humphrey tallied her eighth goal of the year for a 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, OSU earned a penalty stroke nine minutes into the frame. Emma Royce converted to make the Buckeye lead 2-0. Ohio State added a late tally, getting a goal from Peanut Johnson for the 3-0 final score.

The Buckeyes outshot the Scarlet Knights by a 14-11 margin. Shevaun Hayes made three saves for RU, who held a 3-2 edge in penalty corners. Alyssa Bull paced the squad with two shots on goal.

Rutgers is back in action on Sunday, when they will be in Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami. The game begins at noon.
