Field Hockey All-Conference Awards Announced

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Big Ten Conference released its field hockey 2015 all-conference teams on Wednesday, and Rutgers had two players recognized. Freshman midfielder Linde van Schaik was named a Second Team All-Big Ten selection. Senior forward Nicole Imbriaco was also recognized as the team's Sportsmanship Award honoree.
van Schaik was a key contributor for the Scarlet Knights in her first collegiate season. The native of Amsterdam, Netherlands, started all 18 of the team's games and was a fixture in the midfield. She scored two goals and had three assists for seven points in the 2015 campaign. van Schaik performed well down the stretch, assisting on the game-winning goal against Ohio on Oct. 4 and scoring twice in the final five games, with her goals coming against Penn State and in a win over American. She was one of just three freshmen recognized by the Big Ten as All-Conference.
"Linde has made a huge impact for us this season," head coach Meredith Civico said. "Both offensively and defensively, she has dominated the midfield. What has been most impressive is how she has improved with every single game. And as she is only a freshman, she has three seasons to get even better. I can't wait to see the level she reaches. "
The athletes chosen for the Big Ten Conference Sportsmanship Award have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior, in addition to demonstrating good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Imbriaco was the team's leading scorer this season, with a career-best 11 goals, three assists and 25 points. A starter in 30 games over her final two seasons, the Clark, N.J. native has also been previously recognized for her work in the classroom, earning special recognition for her 4.0 GPA.
"I'm so happy that Nicole has won this award," Civico exclaimed. "She really has proven to be someone that leads by example. On the field, in the classroom and even away from Rutgers, Nicole constantly sets the very highest standard. And she does it with an honesty and integrity that makes her a deserving winner of the Sportsmanship award."
