WASHINGTON D.C. - Sophomore guard Mike Williams scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, and senior Bishop Daniels added 12 points, but Rutgers (4-6) fell at George Washington (9-1) 83-49. The Colonials, who are receiving votes in both national polls, made 10 three-pointers and forced 22 Rutgers turnovers.
The Scarlet Knights shot a season best 80 percent from the charity stripe. The home squad held a slim 40-37 advantage in rebounding. George Washington shot 30-of-70 (42.9 percent) while Rutgers was 18-of-53 (34 percent) from the floor.
Rutgers struggled from the field early, opening the game just 1-of-15 from the floor. GW took advantage, opening up a 23-2 lead.
The Scarlet Knights countered with a 6-0 spurt to cut into the lead, and turned that into a 9-2 run with a Williams three-pointer. Ibrahima Diallo scored the next four points for Rutgers, but the Colonials again answered with a run of their own. RU finished the first half on 7-2 stretch, capped by a three-pointer by Jake Dadika, but George Washington took a 46-24 advantage into intermission.
The second stanza went back-and-forth in the early going, with Williams scoring six points in the first six minutes of the frame. Rutgers fought back to 63-40, but GW responded with a 10-0 stretch. The Colonials would finish the game off for an 83-49 victory.
Rutgers will have an eight-day stretch before its next game. The Scarlet Knights will welcome in-state foe Monmouth to the RAC on Sunday, December 20 for a 1 p.m. contest. The game will be the first in a four-game home stand to close out 2015.
