PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 17, 2015) - Three former Rutgers men's lacrosse players were added to professional rosters Wednesday as they were selected by teams in the 2015 Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft. Duncan Clancy, Brendan Porter and Nick Contino were all picked up by MLL teams.
Clancy was the first former RU player selected, going in the ninth round (75th overall) to the Florida Launch. The midfielder was "On the Banks" from 2010 to 2013. He played 40 games in a Scarlet Knights uniform, with 22 goals and 43 assists for 65 points, including a team-leading 29 assists in the 2011 season. Clancy previously played seven games for the Launch in 2015.
The Atlanta Braze chose Porter with the 91st overall pick in the 11th round. The Maplewood, N.J., native was at Rutgers from 2007 to 2010 and was awarded the Rutgers Lacrosse Knight Cup in 2010. The midfielder played in 51 games with six goals, 37 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers as a Scarlet Knight. Porter previously saw time in the MLL with the Boston Cannons.
Contino was the most recent Scarlet Knight to be drafted, as he was picked by the Denver Outlaws in the 14th round (119th overall). The defender played in 61 games at RU, causing 84 turnovers and collecting 102 ground balls. He was a two-time team captain and was named Second Team All-Big East as a senior in 2014.
