PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers (10-18, 2-13) returns to the challenging road of the Big Ten road when it travels to Purdue (18-9, 10-4) to meet the Boilermakers in a 9 p.m. (ET) tip-off on Thursday at 14,264-seat Mackey Arena. RU is seeking a return to the win column, while Purdue is pursuing its fourth consecutive victory and eighth win in nine games. The Scarlet Knights' schedule is currently rated No. 18 nationally in the ESPN Daily RPI. Purdue is currently No. 60 overall in the NCAA RPI.
The game will be televised live nationally on ESPNU with Adam Amin calling the action and Craig Robinson providing the analysis. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers IMG Sports Network, WOR 710 AM in New York and WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Chris Carlin will serve as play-by-play announcer and Dick Lloyd will provide commentary.
The contest will mark the seventh match-up on the collegiate hardwood between RU and Purdue dating back to 1953, with the Boilermakers holding a 5-1 advantage. Senior forward Kadeem Jack scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds on Feb. 12, but Purdue defeated Rutgers, 61-51, at the RAC. RU limited Purdue to 40 percent (21-of-52) shooting. The Scarlet Knights struggled to find their shot, making 33 percent (18-of-54) of their field goal attempts. Purdue won the last meeting in West Lafayette, 79-67, on Dec. 10, 1994 in the championship game of the Boilermaker Invitational, as Charles Jones scored 17 points for RU. Rutgers defeated Purdue 81-73 at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 4, 1975 during the team's 31-0 start en route to the Final Four. Senior forward Phil Sellers had 31 points and junior point guard Eddie Jordan had 17 in the victory.
Junior forward Greg Lewis scored a career-high 13 points and secured eight rebounds, but it was not enough, as Rutgers fell to Indiana, 84-54, Sunday night at the RAC. Lewis made 5-of-10 field goal attempts to lead RU in scoring for the first time in his career. Indiana shot 53.4 percent (31-of-58) and out-rebounded Rutgers, 45-32, to secure the win. The Scarlet Knights produced a 37.0 percent field goal mark (20-for-54) in the decision. Senior guard Myles Mack joined Lewis in double figures with 10 points.
Purdue, under the leadership of ninth-year head coach Matt Painter, earned a 67-63 win at Indiana on Thursday. Junior center A.J. Hammons shot 8-of-9 to score 20 points with four blocks in a game that featured 10 ties and 11 lead changes. Junior guard Rapheal Davis had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hammons, who ranks seventh nationally in blocks (2.96), paces the team in scoring (11.2), while Davis adds 10.7 points-per-game. The Boilermakers are 6-1 at home in the Big Ten this season.
