PISCATAWAY, N.J. - For their third home game in a week span on the horizon, the Scarlet Knights will host the Monmouth Hawks for a noon start on Saturday. Rutgers enters the weekend at 2-2 on the season, hosting a 0-1 Monmouth squad. The game will be streamed live by BTN Plus, with Danny Breslauer and Rick Mercurio calling the action.
RU is looking to build off a 13-10 win over Wagner on Tuesday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights got three goals apiece from Christian Trasolini, Brian Goss and Chad Toliver, and were paced by five points from junior captain Scott Bieda (two goals, three assists).
Monmouth opened the season by hosting UMBC, falling 4-2. The game was tied at 2-2 with 5:30 remaining in the game before the Retrievers scored two final goals to clinch the victory. Eric Berger and Bryce Wasserman scored goals for the Hawks, while Garrett Conaway made 10 saves in the cage.
Last season, the Scarlet Knights toppled the Hawks 20-4 at High Point Solutions Stadium. Rutgers posted 55 shots, and was led by seven points from Connor Murphy (four goals, three assists) and an 11-for-12 effort on faceoffs from Joe Nardella.
Monmouth is coached by Brian Fisher, who became the school's first men's lacrosse coach and guided them into their first season of Division I lacrosse in 2014, where they finished 0-13. Fisher is a Rutgers alumni, as a midfielder and faceoff man for the Scarlet Knights from 1998-2001, and the recipient of the Rutgers Lacrosse Knight Cup in 2001. Fisher also served as an assistant coach "On the Banks" for five seasons.
