PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Coming off an upset bid against No. 10/13 Princeton falling just short, the Scarlet Knights will look to get back on the winning track as they host another in-state foe in NJIT at 6 p.m. on Friday night. The Scarlet Knights enter the matchup at 3-6, while the Highlanders are 0-5 in their first year of Division I competition.
Friday's game will be live streamed by BTN Plus, with Lou Brogno and Rick Mercurio on the call.
Last time out, the Scarlet Knights had a strong effort against their third top-ten foe of the year, leading the Tigers 8-5 at halftime and 9-7 after three quarters, but we just unable to finish off the upset. The Scarlet Knights scored two late goals for a final push, but a tying goal in the final thirty seconds was waived off for a crease violation.
Christian Trasolini, who had a hat trick against Princeton, his fifth time this season with at least three goals, paces RU with 22 goals. Just behind him is Scott Bieda, who has 18 goals and a team-high 31 assists. Joe Nardella has starred for the Scarlet Knights, and is second in the country with 9.67 ground balls per game and third in the nation with a 0.684 winning percentage on faceoffs (141-of-206). In goal Kris Alleyne has started the last two games, making 17 saves in the two contests.
In NJIT's inaugural season, 23 of their 25 players are freshmen. Joe Lomeli is the team's leading scorer, tallying in all five games for nine total goals. Tyler Baggett has also contributed five goals and three assists, while Nick Marzullo has made 69 saves in five games for a 0.535 save percentage. The teams share two mutual opponents in Stony Brook and Monmouth, as they Highlanders lost to those squads 18-4 and 6-3 respectively. NJIT is coached by Travis Johnson, who took over the program after serving as the first assistant at Mount St. Mary's.
