Rutgers Game Notes
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers will wrap up a five-game homestand on Sunday afternoon when they host the Stony Brook Seawolves at 2 p.m. at High Point Solutions Stadium. The game will be the fifth home contest over a 16-day span for the Scarlet Knights. The contest will be televised by BTN Plus, with Lou Brogno and Rick Mercurio calling the action. The game will be Jersey Day, with discounted $5 tickets available to fans wearing a lacrosse jersey to the game. Additionally, a Rutgers lacrosse jersey will be raffled during the game.
Rutgers enters the day at 2-4, looking to stop a two game losing streak after taking a 9-7 loss in a tight battle with No. 9/11 Army its last time out. Offensively, the two catalysts for RU have been junior Scott Bieda (11 goals, eight assists) and sophomore Christian Trasolini (11 goals, two assists). Freshman midfielder Chad Toliver has come on of late, earning starts in his past two games and scoring five of his six goals on the season in the past three outings. Captains Brian Goss (six goals in his last three games) and Joe Nardella (84-of-122 on faceoffs) have been key contributors as well.
Stony Brook enters the game at 4-1 and boasting a three-game winning streak. The lone loss for the Seawolves came at St. John's, who the Scarlet Knights defeated in their season opener. Brody Eastwood leads the offense with 15 goals, while Mike Rooney (nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points) and Matt Schultz (10 goals and eight assists for 18 points) are offensive factors. In goal, Hayden Johnstone has earned four starts with a 3-0 mark and .526 save percentage, while Brandon Maciejewski has played similar minutes with a .561 save percentage. Stony Brook has outscored opponents 69-39 on the year.
Rutgers leads the all-time series against Stony Brook 5-3. The Seawolves have taken the last two, including a three overtime game in 2013 and a 12-9 decision last season. Last year, Rich Rambo tallied three goals to lead RU. The Scarlet Knights were within one at 9-8 with 7:23 to play, but fell just short.
Rutgers volunteer assistant coach Rob Camposa was a goalkeeper at Stony Brook from 2007 to 2011. During his collegiate career, Camposa played in 30 games, making 22-career starts, notching a 14-8 career record for Stony Brook with 230 saves.
