PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers field hockey was recognized on Monday as one of the top five performers for the 2014 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award.
The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year. With a team GPA of 3.51, the Scarlet Knights were the fourth team on the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) Division I poll, behind only Brown (3.59), Drexel (3.57), and Sacred Heart (3.55). Rutgers was also the top-ranked school in the poll from the Big Ten Conference in their inaugural season.
Rutgers field hockey had 11 players named Academic All-Big Ten this season with these players having cumulative grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher in at least their second academic year at Rutgers. Among that group was juniorNicole Imbriaco (Clark, N.J), who is a double major in finance and business analytics and information technologies. Imbriaco was one of just three field hockey players in the Big Ten Conference to post an unblemished cumulative GPA of 4.0.
The Scarlet Knights won nine games last season, qualifying for postseason play for the first time since 2010. They began their spring competition schedule last weekend with the Big Apple Indoor Tournament.
