PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers will play in its first Big Ten Conference home game on Sunday night when they welcome No. 3/3 Maryland in front of a national television audience. The Scarlet Knights and Terrapins will face off at 6 p.m. on the Big Ten Network, with Joe Beninati and Mark Dixon serving as the announcers. The first 500 fans will receive Inaugural Big Ten game t-shirts.
RU is looking to snap a two-game losing skid after dropping its first two Big Ten games on the road. The Scarlet Knights held a lead in each game, but were unable to close out the opponent in a pair of two-goal losses.
Scott Bieda has carried the offense for Rutgers, and had his second seven point performance in the past three games with two goals and five assists at Michigan. Bieda has a team-best 25 goals and 21 assists this year, and has scored in all but one game this season. Christian Trasolini has scored 23 times for RU, while freshman Jules Heningburg has 15 tallies.
Joe Nardella's excellent work at the faceoff "X" has been key for Rutgers in gaining additional possessions. Nardella is 181-of-264 on faceoffs, a .686 winning percentage that is third in the nation. He has also collected 102 ground balls, tied for the most in the nation.
No. 3/3 Maryland is currently 10-1 on the season, and 2-0 in conference play. The Terrapins are led by Matt Rambo with 23 goals and 32 points. In goal, Kyle Bernlohr has made 103 saves and holds a conference-best 5.04 goals-against-average.
The Scarlet Knights are 2-22 in the all-time series against Maryland, collecting victories in 1949 and 1980. In a series that dates back to 1931, the teams have not met since 1998.
