PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 29, 2015) -- After an outstanding performance in Rutgers' regular season finale, midfielder Zack Sikora was named Defensive Player of the Week by three organizations on Wednesday. The junior was named NCAA Defensive Player of the Week, USILA Defensive Player of the Week and ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.
The Clifton, Va., native had a career-high seven ground balls last Saturday as the Scarlet Knights defeated No. 10 Ohio State, 17-10, at High Point Solutions Stadium. The victory was Rutgers' first Big Ten win and first victory over a top-10 opponent since 2003. Sikora also contributed offensively in the game as he scored one goal and added one assist.
Previously this week, Sikora was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection. On the year, the Centreville High School product played in 14 games with six goals and two assists, caused eight turnovers, and was second on the team with 48 ground balls.
