PISCATAWAY, N.J. --Rutgers had two graduating seniors recognized as the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) named its Scholar All-American team. Joe Nardella and Campbell Sode were honored for their dedication and commitment in the classroom.
"I'm very proud of both Joe and Campbell for receiving this prestigious honor," head coach Brian Brecht said. "Their commitment in the classroom, on the field, and their leadership to grow our lacrosse program is exemplary."
Nardella held a 3.38 cumulative GPA, graduating with a degree in economics. The Cazenovia, N.Y. native was a two-time team captain and was named Big Ten Specialist of the Year and First Team All-Big Ten this season. Nardella was one of the nation's best on faceoffs, going 223-of-333 (.670) on draws and leading the team with 125 ground balls.
Sode held a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA throughout his undergraduate years, graduating with degrees in labor studies and employment relations and history. The Dallas, Texas native previously was recognized as a recipient of the 2015 Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award and received a postgraduate scholarship from the Big Ten Conference.
Nardella and Sode make six USILA Scholar All-Americans in program history. Will Mangan in 2012 was the last Scarlet Knight to be recognized. Brian Shemesh (2011), Jamie Lovejoy (2005) and Jeff Duca (2003) were previous honorees.
The USILA Scholar All-America program recognizes student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III. The Scholar All-Americans are recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet. The full list of Scholar All-Americans is available here. The 2015 All-American teams will be released later this week.
