PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers tennis released its 2017 spring schedule on Wednesday, as the 21-match campaign features 11 homes contests and 11 matchups with Big Ten Conference foes.
"We have a great, balanced schedule for the spring," said first-year head coach Hilary Ritchie. "Over a quarter of our matches are against nationally-ranked opponents, allowing us opportunities to get to the next level this year."
The schedule includes two matches against teams who finished in the final 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) top 25 (No. 6 Ohio State, No. 11 Michigan), along with five other programs that resided in the top-75 of the ITA poll (No. 28 Northwestern, No. 41 Princeton, No. 47 Penn, No. 49 Illinois and No. 72 Purdue).
The Scarlet Knights open the spring season with Delaware on Jan. 27 at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. RU's first ranked match comes on Feb. 15 at No. 41 Princeton to highlight non-conference action to begin the year.
Nebraska serves as Rutgers' first Big Ten match of the spring, as the Cornhuskers travel to the EBRC on Feb. 22. The Scarlet Knights' annual spring break trip follows from March 14-16 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two-match slate features Bradley on March 14, followed by conference foe Indiana on March 16.
After its spring break trip, RU competes in four-straight B1G matches on the road, visiting Illinois (March 25), Northwestern (March 26), Ohio State (March 31) and Penn State (April 2).
Rutgers finishes the regular season with five of its final six matches at home, including four conference matchups. The Big Ten Championships will be held April 27-30 in Champaign, Illinois.
The Scarlet Knights return five players from the 2015-16 team that collected six regular-season wins during its second year in the Big Ten. The entire 2017 schedule can be found below.
