Swimming and Diving Finishes at Notre Dame Quad Meet

FINAL RESULTS
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Junior Addison Walkowiak captured the 1-meter diving title to highlight Friday night action for Rutgers swimming and diving against Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame and Purdue at the Rolfs Aquatic Center in South Bend, Indiana.
In team action, the Scarlet Knights fell to the Hurricanes (165-132), Fighting Irish (221-78) and Boilermakers (197-102). This marks the first of two meets in a less than 24-hour span for RU, as the team returns to the pool tomorrow afternoon in Evanston, Illinois to compete against Illinois and Northwestern at 2 p.m. ET.
"We definitely showed a lot of heart and drive today as a team," said head coach Petra Martin. "People were stepping up and we saw a lot of very good things in our races and dives. The team is working really well under very tough conditions, and our skin is getting tougher. I'm proud of the women and I'm looking forward to more toughness tomorrow."
The Rutgers divers made their season debut Friday night, as RU finished 1-2 in the 1-meter dive. Walkowiak secured the 1-meter title with a score of 293.45, while senior Alyssa Black placed second with a mark of 289.45. Black also finished second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 308.50. Walkowiak recorded a fourth-place result of 280.50, while sophomore Rachel Byrne went sixth in both 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Sophomore Francesca Stoppa hit the wall second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:00.94. The Trento, Italy, native also added a fifth-place time of 55:53 in the 100 butterfly.
Senior Rachel Stoddard had a strong night for the Scarlet Knights, as the Hillsborough, New Jersey, native came in third in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:18.18. Stoddard also finished fourth in 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.14.
Rookie Alexandra Fabugais-Inaba had another impressive night to start her collegiate career, as the freshman placed fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:01.72.
In relay action, Rutgers finished fourth in the 200 medley relay, as sophomore Vera Koprivova, Stoddard, junior Karli Rymer and senior Meghan Kiely came in with a time of 1:44.04.
