PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers field hockey had two underclassmen named to the NFHCA All-Region team, it was announced Tuesday. Sophomore midfielder Linde van Schaik was named First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, while freshman midfielder Katie Larmour was named Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region.
van Schaik was second on the team in points (19) and goals (eight). She also had three assists. Three of her goals were game-winners - including tallying both goals in a 2-1 victory at No. 15 Iowa, the team's highest ranked win in program history. The sophomore from Amsterdam, Netherlands, who was a Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection last season, has started all 36 games in her Rutgers career, with 10 goals and six assists for 26 points.
"This season, Linde has taken her game to another level," head coach Meredith Civico said. "She has scored some key goals and been a dominant player in almost every aspect. It is a well-deserved award, but what excites me most of all is what she can go on and achieve in the rest of her time at Rutgers."
Larmour started all 18 games as a freshman in the center midfield for Rutgers. She totaled five goals and three assists for 13 points. The native of Belfast, Ireland also picked up a Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after a two-goal game against Siena.
"Normally, it takes freshmen time to adjust to Division I hockey, never mind Big Ten hockey," Civico explained. "Katie Larmour, however, hit the ground running from the moment she stepped on the field for the Scarlet Knights. A great teammate as well as a great player, she is going to have a fantastic career with us."
"I also know that both Katie and Linde would say that their awards would not be possible without their teammates," Civico said. "Any award we win is won for the whole team. That's the mentality of this Rutgers team."
