Feb 16 | Men's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers senior attacker Scott Bieda is one of 20 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse senior athletes to be named a finalist for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Tuesday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
On the field, Bieda was a First Team All-Big Ten selection last season and the leading returning scorer for Rutgers (30 goals, 28 assists, and 58 points last season). He was also named All-BIG EAST as a sophomore. In 47 career games, Bieda has scored 67 goals and added 70 assists for 137 career points.
Off the field, the Bridgewater, N.J. native is a two-time team captain. He was accepted into the school of business and currently sports a 3.3 GPA. He has been named Academic All-Conference in all three of his seasons and is pursuing a career on Wall Street. In the community, Bieda has taken on a large role in volunteering with the Embrace Kids Foundation and raising money for the Vs. Cancer Foundation.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced in conjunction with the 2016 NCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship in May.
