Owls Oust WLAX, 16-9
Mar 09 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA - Rutgers women's lacrosse responded to an early Temple lead by cutting the advantage to a goal, using scores from three different players. But the Owls' persistent attack, which carried a four-goal run into the second half, left RU short in the goal column, 16-9, Wednesday afternoon at Geasy Field.
Rutgers was led in scoring by junior midfielder Kristina Dunphey (Hillsborough, N.J.), who recorded her second game this season of at least four goals and fifth multi-goal effort overall. She leads the Scarlet Knights with 17 goals this season.
Contributing a multi-goal game to the attack along with Dunphey was senior attack Kim Kolodny (Farmingdale, N.Y.) with two scores - her fourth multi-goal effort this season.
Freshman goalkeeper Devon Kearns (Marlton, N.J.) earned her third consecutive start and made six saves in 33:53 minutes in cage. Sophomore keeper Bianca Dente (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) entered the game in relief of Kearns in the second half and made four saves in 25:34 minutes of action.
The Owls began slowing things down with around 10 minutes remaining and a four-goal lead, putting together methodic possessions that ended in goals. Sophomore Kerri Puckhaber (Wantagh, N.Y.) rattled home a goal with 15:52 on the clock to boost the Scarlet Knights and make it a 13-9 game.
From there the Owls controlled possession and scored the game's final three goals from Morgan Glassford (12:03), Rachel Schwaab (8:27), and Nicole Barretta (3:32).
Rutgers rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the first half with goals from Kolodny, Chrissy Schreiber (East Meadow, N.Y.), and Dunphey to make it an 8-5 Owl lead at the halftime break. Kolodny and Dunphey each scored twice in the period, as Schreiber notched her first goal since May 1, 2014, against Louisville.
The Scarlet Knights next face Lafayette on Tuesday, March 15 at High Point Solutions Stadium. The 7 p.m. meeting will stream live on BTN Plus.
