COLUMBUS, Ohio -
On a rainy night at Ohio Stadium, No. 16 Rutgers men's lacrosse (10-4, 3-2 Big Ten) was downed by Ohio State (7-8, 2-3 Big Ten) by a score of 12-10. RU was led by Christian Trasolini, who had a season-high three goals.

Adam Charalambides scored two second half tallies for RU. OSU held a 38-32 advantage in shots, 27-26 edge in ground balls, and won 17-of-24 faceoffs. Johnny Pearson had a game-high four goals for the Buckeyes.

Trasolini got the scoring started for Rutgers just over two minutes into the game. He took a pass for Casey Rose and bounced a shot past the OSU goalkeeper.

The Buckeyes countered with a run, scoring the next four goals to take a 4-1 lead. RU struck back with their transition game. Christian Scarpello forced a turnover, ignited the early offense, and fed long-stick midfielder Zack Sikora, who launched one into the net. OSU added another tally with just two seconds remaining in the quarter, and the Buckeyes took a 5-2 lead after 15 minutes.

After another Buckeyes goal, the Scarlet Knights countered with two tallies. Trasolini fired home his second goal of the day to cut the deficit to 6-3.Then RU's transition offense keyed the attack again, with sophomore Austin Divitcos scoring his first career goal. The Buckeyes added two more goals in the frame and took an 8-4 lead into the halftime locker room.

Just 16 seconds in to the second half, Rutgers forced a turnover and Christian Scarpello scored for RU. After another OSU goal, Trasolini completed his hat trick to bring Rutgers within 9-6 with 3 minutes to play in the third quarter. At the end of the third, Jules Heningburg scored with just two seconds remaining, but OSU held a 10-7 lead after three frames.

Rutgers transition led to another goal, as the first tally of the day from Charalambides cut the OSU lead to 10-8. The Buckeyes then answered with a behind-the-back goal, taking the ball out of the Rutgers goalkeeper's stick to go in front 11-9.

The teams continued to go back and forth in the scoring. Charalambides scored his second straight goal on a leaping shot coming around the cage, but it was answered quickly by OSU.

With 5:50 remaining in the fourth quarter, Scott Bieda scored his first of the day, finishing a feed from Jules Heningburg. However, OSU gained possession and was able to run out the clock.

Next up for Rutgers is the Big Ten Tournament. RU will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and will play No. 3 seed Johns Hopkins in the Semifinals on Thursday, May 5 at 8 p.m.

Notes

Trasolini's three goals was a new season-high.
Austin Divitcos scored his first career goal.
Rutgers lead in the all-time series against OSU is now 7-2.
Christian Scarpello led the team with three caused turnovers, along with scoring a goal and adding an assist.

Chris Groel had five ground balls, leading the Scarlet Knights for the second straight week.

Kris Alleyne made seven saves, taking the loss to fall to 7-4 on the year.
