Bieda, Charalambides Win Big Ten Awards

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After scoring a top-ten victory over No. 9 Johns Hopkins, 16-9 on Saturday night, No. 18 Rutgers men's lacrosse received two Big Ten Player of the Week Awards from the Big Ten Conference Tuesday. Scott Bieda was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and Adam Charalambides was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
The men's lacrosse team has now totaled 13 Big Ten Weekly Awards this season. This is the seventh time that Charlambides has won Freshman of the Week, while Bieda is a two-time Offensive Player of the Week.
Bieda had a team-high six points (three goals, three assists), plus two ground balls in the win over No. 9 JHU. In extending his point-scoring streak to 30 games, he had at least six points for the third time this season, and at least three assists for the fourth time this season. The Bridgewater, N.J. native currently leads the Big Ten with 43 points and is the only player in the Big Ten with 20+ goals and 20+ assists.
Charalambides continued his dominant debut season with four goals and an assist, along with three ground balls in the game. The Georgetown, Ontario native scored at least four goals for the third time this season, and first time since February 20. He had at least five points for the fourth time this season (and second straight game). He currently leads the Big Ten Conference with 29 goals on the season.
Rutgers (8-2, 1-0) continues Big Ten play on Sunday. RU will host Michigan at noon.
