“Let’s Beat Breast Cancer Together” 21-day campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers Athletics and RWJBarnabas Health will partner to bring awareness to breast health as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month recognized in October. The initiative aims to educate the public on the importance of early detection and provide the latest medical findings and resources.
Special pink shoelaces will be sold at all Breast Health Awareness games as well as The Yard PinkOUT, with portions of the proceeds going to support charity.
Through the alignment with Rutgers Athletics, RWJBarnabas Health, the official health care provider for Rutgers Athletics, continues to reinforce its ongoing message about the importance of breast health and the early detection of breast cancer through screening mammography. Rutgers Athletics will designate Breast Health Awareness games during the 21 days, which began with the women's and men's soccer doubleheaders on Oct. 1 and will culminate with Oct. 21 football game.
Breast Health Awareness games will also take place on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. with women's volleyball against Michigan and and Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. with field hockey vs. Ohio State.
On Oct. 20, Rutgers teams, organizations, societies and sororities will participate in The Yard at College Ave PinkOUT. There will be distribution of breast health awareness materials and giveaways. The 21-day campaign concludes the following day at the Rutgers vs. Purdue football game. In addition to Homecoming, it will also be the Breast Health Awareness game with pregame and in-game activations and giveaways. On-field presentations will take place commemorating individuals who have been affected by the disease as well as those who have dedicated their efforts to raising awareness.
