RU went 1-1 last week earning a 4-1 victory over Lafayette last Wednesday and falling 6-2 to Penn State in the Big Ten regular season finale on Sunday.
Last Wednesday against Lafayette, the Scarlet Knights powered back from a 1-0 deficit on a Leopard penalty kick for the 4-1 victory.
In the win, a trio of freshmen were involved in the scoring with Bryce Washington posting his first Scarlet Knight goal, Kyle Galloway registering a pair of assists and Vincent Borden posting his first collegiate helper. Meanwhile, veterans redshirt senior Erik Sa and junior Thomas Dovell also found the back of the Leopard goal in helping Rutgers return to the win column.
On Sunday, Rutgers responded after Penn State took the early 1-0 lead in the second minute with redshirt sophomore Brian Hawkins tying the game up in the seventh minute. The Chesterfield, New Jersey native took the ball from the midfield line all the way down into Penn State territory where his shot from 10-yards out went into goal.
The Nittany Lions, however, managed to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission and extended its edge in the second stanza.
Sophomore Tim McQuaid added RU's second goal of the game. Off a Scarlet Knight corner kick, senior Ryan Peterson's header hit the crossbar and landed eight-yards out from goal. Senior Brandon Tetro sent in the ricochet off the pipe where it was tapped in by McQuaid through the Nittany Lion keepers' legs and into the far corner.
