
Women’s Golf Finishes 4th in Fall Finale

MACON, Ga. – Women's golf placed fourth with a 925 (312-310-303) total at the 11-team Idle Hour Intercollegiate, played Monday and Tuesday at The Idle Hour Club. Freshman Lori Char carded a 74 in the final round, while senior Emily Mills and rookie Harriet Allsebrook tied for 13th in the 69-player field to provide Rutgers' its top tournament finishes.
"We had good bounce back rounds today from Harriet, Emily, and Lori," said head coach Kari Williams. "While we were not able to move up the leaderboard, I did see a lot of fight after getting off to a slow start this morning. After a competitive schedule this fall, we have a lot of positives to build upon this offseason."
The Intercollegiate was the final fall event for the Scarlet Knights, who conclude the campaign with a 303.8 stroke average based upon 15 rounds over five tournaments. The team entered Idle Hour 49th regionally and 107th nationally in the Golfstat rankings.
Mills (79-77-75) and Allsebrook (76-79-76) tallied 231 totals on the par 72, 6,006-yard course and were both minus three on par five holes. Allsebrook registered a tournament-best 11 birdies, while Mills had 31 pars.
Char joined the duo among the top competitors, placing 20th with a 232 (78-80-74). It signals her second top 20 performance, after placing tied for 15th at the Nittany Lion Invitational.
Sophomore Carrie-Ann Lee and senior Tatum Jackson completed the team scorecard. Lee tied for 29th with a 236 (79-79-78) and Jackson tied for 34th with a 238 (79-75-84). Sophomore Ana Cortes, competing individually, tied for 55th with a 246 (81-83-82).
Rutgers was a tournament best minus one on par five holes.
Host Mercer captured the title with a 907, nine strokes better than second place Western Kentucky. Payton Schanen (Mercer) and Hannabeth Owens (Eastern Kentucky) were individual co-champions with 222 efforts.
The Scarlet Knights finished two strokes out of third and placed ahead of Troy, North Florida, James Madison, Cincinnati, Elon, Samford and Georgia Southern.
Rutgers spring season begins at the Moon Invitational, Feb. 19-20, in Louisville, Ky.
