Five ranked Scarlet Knights set for weekend action in West Point, New York

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 11 Rutgers wrestling takes a break from its dual schedule to compete in the Black Knight Invitational, hosted by Army, on Sunday, Nov. 19 in West Point, New York. The field features wrestlers from Army, Binghamton, Bloomsburg, Chattanooga and Lock Haven. Live results and a live stream will be provided by Trackwrestling.

In their last time out, the Scarlet Knights earned a pair of victories over No. 19 Oklahoma (22-9) and Virginia (21-9) last Saturday at the 2017 Journeymen Northeast Duals in Clifton Park, New York. In total, RU secured 14 of 20 possible individual bouts in its two duals.

Redshirt senior 149-pounder Eleazar DeLuca, sophomore 125-pounder Nick Suriano and redshirt freshman Michael Van Brill all picked up decisions over ranked foes. Six Rutgers grapplers – DeLuca, Suriano, Van Brill, redshirt senior 133-pounder Scott DelVecchio, redshirt senior 184-pounder Nicholas Gravina and senior heavyweight Razohnn Gross – secured multiples wins during the duals.

Rutgers is ranked No. 11 in the latest USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll. RU is also No. 12 by Intermat and No. 16 by FloWrestling.
Eight individuals are ranked in at least one poll entering the third week of the season, including six by Intermat in No. 2 Suriano (125), No. 5 Anthony Ashnault (141), No. 9 Richie Lewis (157), No. 10 Gravina (184), No. 12 DelVecchio (133) and No. 14 DeLuca (149).
Michael Van Brill (Open Mat, No. 16: 141) and Jordan Pagano (No. 16 WIN, No. 17 AWN: 174) also appear in national polls this week.

In Rutgers first three duals of the season, RU's first four weights (Suriano-125, DelVecchio-133, Michael Van Brill-141, DeLuca-149) have combined for a 11-1 record and 3-1 mark against ranked foes. The quartet has outscored its opponents, 117-46, against Maryland, No. 19 Oklahoma and Virginia.
