van Schaik, Cuneo and Groothuis Named All-Region
Nov 27 | Field Hockey
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Three members of Rutgers field hockey team earned Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region recognition, as the Mid-Atlantic Region team was announced on Monday, November 27. Linde van Schaik was named to the First Team, while Austyn Cuneo and Daphne Groothuis were named to the Second Team.
"The fact we have three members of the program recognized on the All-Region Team shows the strength and depth of this team," head coach Meredith Civico said. "Linde shone as a central player this season, and we're delighted that other coaches have seen what she brought to the team. Austyn and Daphne both joined the program just this season and have been key components of our success. They have worked so hard and they are so deserving of their awards. What is even more exciting for me is that all of them will be with us next season and can help the team achieve even greater things."
For van Schaik, it is her third consecutive All-Region recognition, and her second time on the First Team. The junior recorded seven goals and five assists for 19 points this season. The Amsterdam, Netherlands native was previously recognized as a Second Team All-Big Ten selection and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. In 54 games as a Scarlet Knight, the midfielder has scored 17 goals and added 11 assists for 45 points.
Cuneo made an immediate impact in her first season 'On the Banks'. She started all 18 games at back, and also scored five goals and had five assists for 15 points. The sophomore from Waterford Works, N.J. made a statement in her first game at RU with a hat trick versus Kent State, and also scored a goal in the Big Ten Tournament against Northwestern.
Groothuis had a stellar freshman campaign. The native of Nieuwerkerk ad IJssel, Netherlands, led the Scarlet Knights with 22 points and eight assists, and shared the team-lead with van Schaik with seven goals. She was previously named Second Team All-Big Ten.
