Men’s Hoops Hosts Jersey Foe FDU Saturday Night
Dec 08 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY – Rutgers (7-3) will work to improve to 16-1 in non-conference home games under Steve Pikiell when it welcomes Jersey foe Fairleigh Dickinson (3-5) in the second of five straight games versus metro foes. It will mark the 15th meeting between the schools dating back to 1981, with RU holding a 12-2 advantage, including an 11-2 mark at the RAC. FDU enters the contest with the benefit of six preparation days, while RU plays its third straight game on one day prep.
It will be a Dollar Hot Dogs Knight for fans and weekend shuttles will be available for Rutgers students. At halftime, a human "Hungry Hippos" competition will take place.
Saturday's game will be streamed live the web on BTN Plus, with Lou Brogno calling the action and Mark Peterson providing the analysis. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers IMG Sports Network, WOR 710 AM in New York and WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Jerry Recco will serve as play-by-play announcer and Joe Boylan will provide commentary. WRSU (88.7 FM) will also broadcast the game.
Corey Sanders scored 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting to boost Rutgers in a 73-64 win over NJIT Thursday evening at the RAC. The Scarlet Knights shot 58 percent (29-of-50). The Highlanders battled RU from the opening tip to the final buzzer, establishing a 42-40 rebounding advantage in a contest that featured five lead changes and two ties. NJIT cleaned the offensive glass 23 times, resulting in 75 field goal attempts for the visitors. Deshawn Freeman, Eugene Omoruyi and Geo Baker joined Sanders in double digits. Freeman registered 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Omoruyi and Baker both scored 11.
Freeman is second in the Big Ten in offensive rebounding (3.3), fifth in steals (1.7) and sixth in rebounding (8.5), while Baker leads all Big Ten freshmen in minutes-per-game (31.1).
