Softball Drops Middle Game of Series to Penn State
Apr 22 | Softball
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – The Rutgers softball team fell in the middle game of the series to Penn State, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Beard Field.
Juniors Rebecca Hall and Sierra Maddox each added two hits each to lead RU (11-31, 2-12 Big Ten). Senior Shayla Sweeney suffered the loss in the circle.
Tori Dubois paced PSU (20-25, 6-10 Big Ten) with two hits, two RBIs, and two runs. Jessica Cummings earned a complete-game win.
After Rutgers stranded a runner on in the top of the first, Penn State pushed to a 4-0 advantage on four hits in the bottom half of the inning.
Although senior Aubrie Levine registered a 1-2-3 inning in the second, the Nittany Lions went on to add a single run on two hits in the third to extend their lead to 5-0.
As the Scarlet Knight offense was off to a slow start, Levine held the margin with two scoreless innings of work in the fourth and fifth.
In the top of the sixth, freshman Taryn Atlee and Hall each added hits. However, it was not enough to get the offense rolling.
The Nittany Lions then added two runs on three hits in the sixth for the game's final tally.
