Rutgers designated as 2017 Division I Academic Honor Squad
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has named Nicole Kopyta and Delaney Tuite as 2017 Academic Honor Roll selections, announced Wednesday by the organization. The IWLCA also selected Rutgers women's lacrosse as a 2017 Division I Academic Honor team.
"I am always proud of our continued commitment to academic success," said head coach Laura Brand-Sias. "These awards credit the hard work of every player on our team and the continued effort of our staff."
To be eligible for individual accolades, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. Programs that qualify for team recognition must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
As a redshirt junior last season, Kopyta played in all 16 games for the Scarlet Knights. The Oakland, New Jersey, native was third on the team with 25 points and second with 24 goals in 2017. Tuite appeared in four games for RU in her final season "On the Banks".
Kopyta and Tuite were both 2017 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars after they posted 3.7 or higher GPA's during the 2016-17 academic year. Rutgers had 12 selected as 2017 Spring Academic All-Big Ten recipients, as the Scarlet Knights posted a perfect 1000 single-year APR score in the most recent released performance review by the NCAA.
