WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Rutgers and Monmouth men's soccer scrimmaged in three 30-minute periods in preseason action on Wednesday night at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn with the Hawks emerging with a 1-0 victory.
Monmouth's Luke Bromley headed in a corner from John Antunes for the game's lone score in the 56
th minute of action.
"It's still early, but there were many bright spots in our game the other day with UConn and tonight there were some big positives as well," said head coach
Dan Donigan. "We need to focus on little key things, but I liked our fight and our organizational defense.Â
"Obviously we know what happened and now we can concentrate on what is next and that is our trip Wake Forest and North Carolina coming up next week."
The Scarlet Knights open the 2017 season with their first four games on the road beginning with No. 2 Wake Forest on Friday, Aug. 25 and No. 4 UNC on Sunday, Aug. 27. Rutgers will also travel to Oral Roberts on Friday, Sept. 1 and UMKC on Sunday, Sept. 3. RU will open up both at home at Yurcak Field in Big Ten play against No. 22 Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 8.
