Rutgers Announces 2017-18 Men’s Basketball Schedule
Aug 16 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 16, 2017) - Rutgers men's basketball plays 15 games (48 percent of its regular season schedule) against opponents that earned NCAA (11) or NIT (4) postseason berths last year. The Scarlet Knights will compete in seven contests (23 percent of its regular season schedule) versus foes that are included in preseason rankings by national media outlets.
"The schedule provides great opportunities for our program and offers our fans a tremendous slate of opponents at the RAC, nine of which competed in the postseason last year," said head coach Steve Pikiell. "Four of our first five Big Ten games are against ranked programs. We are working to build off the positive momentum from last season and make continued strides. We again look forward to the challenge of playing in the best league in the country."
Rutgers Men's Basketball 2017-18 Schedule
RU begins its league slate in early December against a pair of postseason programs, travelling to Minnesota on Dec. 3, before hosting Michigan State on Dec. 5. With the 2018 Big Ten Tournament taking place at Madison Square Garden one week earlier than traditionally played (Feb. 28-March 4), the schedule is unlike any other in conference history. Eighteen games are scheduled in a nine-week window and each Big Ten team will play two league games in early December. Per recommendations from the coaches, the Big Ten refrained from scheduling any conference games between Christmas and New Year's Day.
"Having the Big Ten Tournament at Madison Square Garden has enormous benefit for Rutgers and the conference," said Director of Athletics Pat Hobbs. "As a result of the unique time frame, the league schedule is condensed. Rutgers will do everything necessary to ensure student-athlete welfare. We feel very comfortable that our student-athletes will not be negatively impacted by the condensed schedule."
After opening its Big Ten home slate against the Spartans, Rutgers will host Wisconsin (Jan. 5), Ohio State (Jan. 14), Iowa (Jan. 17), Nebraska (Jan. 24), Purdue (Feb. 3), Indiana (Feb. 5), Northwestern (Feb. 13) and Illinois (Feb. 25) in conference play.
As an exclusive benefit, 2017-18 Rutgers men's basketball season ticket holders will have the opportunity to request and buy 100-level tickets to the Big Ten Tournament at a seating quantity consistent with their RU season ticket level (maximum eight tickets). The 100-level Big Ten Tournament ticket allotment is limited and will be allocated via priority point levels.
Fans have the opportunity to renew or purchase season tickets by calling 866-445-GORU or by clicking here to place a deposit (100 level-$450; Section 118-$400; 200 level-$250; 300 level-$150). Season ticket pricing includes a Rutgers Scholarship Fund (RSF) Gift. This donation, which is 80% tax deductible, will immediately impact all 650 student-athletes and result in additional priority points for season ticket holders.
Rutgers plays 15 games (48% of its regular season schedule) against opponents that earned NCAA (Florida State, Seton Hall, Minnesota, Michigan State [2], Wisconsin, Northwestern, Maryland, Purdue [2], Michigan) or NIT (Indiana, Illinois [2], Iowa) postseason berths in 2016-17. The Scarlet Knights play six games against opponents nationally-ranked in the CBS Sports Top 25 preseason rankings (No. 4 Michigan State [2], No. 14 Minnesota, No. 15 Northwestern, No. 24 Purdue [2]) as well as Seton Hall (No. 20 USA Today/No. 25 Sporting News preseason rankings) for a total of seven games (23 percent of regular season schedule) against preseason ranked programs.
