MEET R FRESHMEN: Amirah Ali
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's soccer welcomes 11 new faces to the program for the 2017 season. ScarletKnights.com caught up with all 11 newcomers for brief Q&A sessions to introduce them to the RU community. This installment features Voorhees, New Jersey, native Amirah Ali.

Prior to Rutgers: National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National High School Player of the Year at Eastern Regional High School … three-time high school All-American … current U.S. Women's National Team U-19 player and participated in U-14, -18 and U-19 camps … member of PDA soccer club, one of the top ranked soccer clubs in the country … plays for the U-18 PDA ECNL team, currently ranked fourth in the country … four-year letterwinner who was a four-time regional All-American, four-time all-South Jersey selection, four-time all-conference selection and 2015 Courier Post and Philadelphia Inquirer Player of the Year … named South Jersey forward of the year … owns two Eastern Regional scoring records with 99 career goals and 36 goals in a single season … played in the High School All-America Game in 2016.
Personal: Daughter of Jameel and Kimberly … has one sibling, Jameel … intends to major in exercise science.
ScarletKnights.com: Why did you choose Rutgers?
Amirah Ali: I chose Rutgers because I knew it would challenge me academically and athletically.
SK.com: When did you first start playing soccer?
AA: I started playing soccer when I was four years old.
SK.com: Who was your biggest soccer influence?
AA: My biggest soccer influence is my family because they always push me to be the best I can be.
SK.com: What is your best soccer memory?
AA: My best soccer memory is receiving NSCAA National High School Player of the Year.
SK.com: Do you have a favorite soccer player?
AA: Lionel Messi.
SK.com: What is your favorite thing about Rutgers so far?
AA: My favorite thing about Rutgers so far is the atmosphere.
SK.com: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?
AA: To receive Freshman Player of the Year!
SK.com: What three things would you bring to a deserted island?
AA: I would just have my family & food.
SK.com: What is your favorite music and food?
AA: My favorite music is rap and my favorite food is salmon.
SK.com: If you had a walkout song what would it be?
AA: New Level by ASAP Ferg.
SK.com: What are your hobbies outside of playing soccer?
AA: Spending time with family and friends.

AA: Track
