PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's soccer welcomes 11 new faces to the program for the 2017 season. ScarletKnights.com caught up with all 11 newcomers for brief Q&A sessions to introduce them to the RU community. This installment features Warren, New Jersey, native Alexa Ferreira.

Warren, N.J. • Watchung Hills Regional High School
Prior to Rutgers: Top-10 national recruit, according to TopDrawerSoccer.com … high school All-American at Watchung Hills Regional … member of PDA soccer club, one of the top ranked soccer clubs in the country … plays for the U-18 PDA ECNL team, currently ranked fourth in the country… ECNL National Finalist with PDA in 2014 and 2013 … played with the Portuguese National Team … has attended numerous U.S. Women's National Team Camps, including U-14, U-15 and U-17 … played high school ball at Watchung Hills and the Pingry School … while at Watchung, named first team all-state, First Team All-Skyland Conference, and Courier News All-Area First Team … scored 21 goals and had 18 assists in her senior season … played in the High School All-America Game in 2016.
Personal: Daughter of Phil and Liliana … has three siblings, Brittany, Chloe, and Anthony … intends to major in sport management.
ScarletKnights.com: Why did you choose Rutgers?
Alexa Ferreria: I chose Rutgers because I knew it was the perfect school for me. Rutgers has one of the best soccer programs in the country and that was something I wanted to be a part of. I love how everything is about family and I'm so excited to finally be a part of it. Lastly, Rutgers is academically a phenomenal school and has everything to offer.
SK.com: When did you first start playing soccer?
AF: I was around four years old when my mom signed me up for rec soccer.
SK.com: Do you remember the moment you fell in love with soccer?
AF: I come from a soccer family so I've had passion and love for the game for as long as I can remember.
SK.com: Who was your biggest soccer influence?
AF: My family.
SK.com: What is your best soccer memory?
AF: Winning the county tournament in my senior high school season against my old team.
SK.com: Do you have a favorite soccer player?
AF: Cristiano Ronaldo.
SK.com: What did you know about Rutgers prior to committing?
AF: I knew a lot about Rutgers prior to committing. It was always a very familiar place. I have been going to Rutgers camps since I was 10 and I've known the coaches for most of my soccer career. I also always had practices with my club team at Rutgers facilities.
SK.com: What is your favorite thing about Rutgers so far?
AF: I really like how big it is. All of the campuses are spread out and there are so many people.
SK.com: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?
AF: I want to come in and make an impact. I want to do anything I can to help the team, whether it is in practice or games. As a team, I want to win a Big Ten Championship and, hopefully, a National Championship.
SK.com: What three things would you bring to a deserted island?
AF: A toothbrush, water, and a pillow.
SK.com: What is your favorite food, TV show, and music?
AF: My favorite food is steak. I love the show Gossip Girl. My favorite music would be pop, rap, or country.
SK.com: If you had a walkout song what would it be?
AF: Unforgettable by French Montana.
SK.com: What are your hobbies outside of playing soccer?
AF: I like to go to the beach and hangout with my friends or family.
SK.com: If you could excel at any other sport, what would it be?
AF: Definitely gymnastics. I used to be a gymnast when I was younger and I really enjoyed it but I gave it up for soccer.
