Heningburg, Rexrode Recognized for Accolades

Rutgers Athletics recognized two men's lacrosse players on Saturday as award winners for their accolades in the 2017 season. Seniors Michael Rexrode and Jules Heningburg were honored in an on-field ceremony during halftme of the football game against Eastern Michigan.
Rexrode earned three awards for the 2017 season.
- Werblin Award (Awarded to a male or female student-athlete who, either as an individual or member of a team, received national recognition or has won a national championship during the most recent academic year.)
- Rutgers Leadership Award (Presented to a student-athlete who demonstrates excellent leadership qualities in their community, university and sport. Student-athletes receive points for academics, university, personal, athletics and community.)
- Athletic Director's Excellence Award
A team captain, Rexrode had a stellar junior campaign on and off the field for RU. The defenseman was named a Third Team All-American, First Team All-Big Ten selection and Second Team All-ECAC. He led the Big Ten with a career-high 23 caused turnovers and was twice named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. The Leesburg, Va. native holds a 3.75 GPA in Civil Engineering and earned a postgraduate scholarship from the Big Ten. He is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Heningburg earned the Werblin Award as an All-American. A team captain, Heningburg was named an All-American by the USILA for his performance this season. The starting attackman, a 2016 First Team All-Big Ten selection, scored 20 goals and added a career-high 26 assists for 46 points, also collecting 20 ground balls. He had 10 multi-point games. The Maplewood, N.J., native was named a Preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse and was a Big Ten Preseason Honoree.
