
Women’s Golf 6th after Day One of Sunflower Invitational

MANHATTAN, KS – Women's golf is tied for sixth with a 309 total after the first round of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, hosted by Kansas State, played Sunday at the Colbert Hills Golf Course. Senior co-captain Emily Mills paced the Scarlet Knights on day one of the 54-hole tournament, carding a 76 to enter Monday's second round tied for 14th in the 51-player field.
Mills had 10 pars and three birdies on the par 72, 6,235-yard course. She was joined in the top 25 by fellow senior Tatum Jackson, who shot a 77 and is tied for 22nd. Jackson was minus two in par three scoring on Sunday, while also registering 10 pars and three birdies.
Redshirt junior co-captain Ashleigh Greenham, sophomore Carrie-Ann Lee and freshman Harriet Allsebrook complete the Rutgers scorecard. Greenham and Lee are tied for 27th at 78, while Allsebrook is tied for 36th after shooting 79.
With all entries shooting under 80, the Scarlet Knights are tied with Arkansas-Little Rock and ahead of Georgia Southern and Central Arkansas in the nine team event. Host Kansas State is first, with a one-under 287, 12 strokes ahead of second place Tulsa.
The host Wildcats hold the top four positions on the leaderboard entering day two, led by Connie Jeffrey with a six-under 66.
Colbert Hills has been ranked the No. 1 public golf course in Kansas and a Top 15 collegiate golf course nationally. The course hosted the 2002 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship, 2003 NCAA Men's Central Regional Championship and the 2005 Kansas Amateur.
