B1G WIN IN OT
Rutgers captured its first Big Ten win of the season at Ohio State on Sunday in overtime in front of the BTN cameras. Down 2-0 at the half, the Scarlet Knights battled back to tie the game within a 43 second span midway thru the second half before Jordan Hall lifted RU to the 3-2 victory with the golden goal in the 94th minute.
Ohio State had a strong first half, outshooting the Scarlet Knights, 7-2, with goals in the 17th and 35th minutes for the 2-0 edge at the break.
It was a different story, however, for Rutgers in the second half.
Hall closed the Scarlet Knight deficit to a goal in the 61st minute as redshirt senior Miles Hackett played the ball over the Buckeye back line for the Manchester, England native to one-touch the ball past charging Buckeye keeper Parker Siegfried.
With help from the bench, Rutgers made it a tie 2-2 game 43 seconds later. Redshirt senior Kyle Goodwin served the ball from the left side to connect with sophomore Miles Franklyn, both entering the contest following the Scarlet Knights' first goal. Franklyn's initial header was punched away by Siegfried, but the Scarlet Knight was at the goal line to tap the ball into goal.
In overtime, Hall headed in the golden goal off the restart sent in from the left side of the 18 from Thomas DeVizio at the right post.
ABOUT DREXEL
The Dragons head to Yurack Field with a 6-2-2 overall record and 1-2-1 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play. Drexel was receiving votes in last week's United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Drexel is closing out a three-game road stretch coming off a 0-0 stalemate at College of Charleston last Friday and a 1-0 loss at Hofstra on Wednesday.
Mathias Ebbesen leads the Dragons with 15 points (7G, 1A) with Kwesi Allen adding in six points (2G, 2A).
In goal, Stephen Kopsachilis has started in eight of the Dragon's 10 contests to date with 38 saves and four shutouts. He is holding down a 0.82 goals against average and .844 save percentage.
B1G STATS
Thanks to his first multiple goal outing as a Scarlet Knight on Sunday at Ohio State, Hall's two goals against the Buckeyes moved him into a tie for first in goals in the Big Ten. Hall, Michigan's Umar Farouk Osman and Indiana's Andrew Gutman all have six goals thru nine games.
Hall's name is also found second in the league in shots (25) and shots per game (2.78) and third in points (13) and points per game (1.44).
