Women’s Golf Set to Compete in the Evergreen State
Oct 08 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY – Women's golf travels to the Pacific Northwest for the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish on Tuesday and Wednesday. After setting a program-record score in their last event, the Scarlet Knights will work to further their trajectory at the 12-team tournament hosted by the University of Washington.
Freshman Maeve Rossi, sophomore Harriet Allsebrook, junior Carrie-Ann Lee, graduate co-captain Ashleigh Greenham and junior co-captain Ana Cortes comprise the starting five for Rutgers in the fourth tournament of its five fall tournaments. Sophomore Lori Char will compete individually.
The Scarlet Knights will be joined by the No. 16 Huskies, BYU, Seattle, Pepperdine, Georgetown, Hawaii, Long Beach State, UC Davis Oregon State, Iowa and San Francisco on the par-72, 6,014 yard course.
Rutgers placed third with a program-record, 54-hole, 879 (299-288-292) total at the 16-team Nittany Lion Invitational, Sept. 22-23, in its last outing. Rossi was runner-up in the 90-player field with a three-under par 213 (71-70-72), the second-best, three-round individual effort in school history.
Site of the 1998 PGA Championship, Sahalee was designed by noted golf course architect Ted Robinson with later renovations by Rees Jones. It has been consistently ranked in the top 100 courses in America by Golf Digest for over 30 years. This all weather, year round course is characteristically Northwest with majestic Douglas fir, red cedar and hemlock trees lining its narrow fairways.
Thirty-six holes are scheduled for day one, with an additional 18 slated for Wednesday. Live results will be available via Golfstat.
