MELBOURN, FL – Women's golf placed 13th with a 935 (314-300-321) total at the Moon Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday in windy conditions and under scattered clouds at Duran Golf Club. In their initial event of the spring, the Scarlet Knights compiled 148 pars and 22 birdies against a competitive field comprised of multiple ranked programs.
"The difficulty of the course and the wind exposed some areas of our games that we need to work on in the coming weeks as we prepare for UNCW," said Rutgers head coach Kari Williams.
Senior captain Emily Mills, playing in first position, paced RU and tied for 35th with a 935 (75-74-78) on the par 72, 6,309-yard course. She had 34 pars, six birdies and was even on par five holes.
Freshmen Harriet Allsebrook and Lori Char both placed among the top 60 in the 74-player field to supplement Mills' performance. Allsebrook was 51st with a 232 (78-75-79) and Char tied for 59th with a 236 (81-73-82). Allsebrook was minus four on par five holes with nine birdies, while Char registered 34 pars.
Senior Tatum Jackson and redshirt junior Ashleigh Greenham rounded-out the team scorecard. Jackson tied for 67th with a 240 (80-78-82) and Greenham was 74th with a 253 (85-81-87).
No. 8-ranked Furman won the Invitational with an 863 (283-292-288), besting second place Old Dominion by 17 strokes. Tournament host and No. 23-ranked Louisville placed seventh with an 888. Furman's Alice Chen earned the individual title with a five-under 211 (70-71-70).
Rutgers returns to the links at the River Landing Classic, hosted March 5-6 by UNC-Wilmington, in Wallace, N.C.
