Seniors Jacqueline Kott, Sierra Maddox & Meaghan Wells complete the three-year sweep
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 30, 2018) – The Big Ten Conference recognized nine Rutgers softball student-athletes on the 2018 Spring Academic All-Big Ten list, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team, as verified by being on the official squad list as of May 1 for spring sports, who have been enrolled fulltime at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
Seniors Jacqueline Kott, Sierra Maddox and Meaghan Wells all completed the clean sweep, achieving Academic All-Big Ten distinction in all three seasons in which they were eligible. Wells added the academic honor to a Big Ten All-Defensive accolade at third base following her senior season "On the Banks."
The Scarlet Knights' innings leaders on the pitching staff each earned Academic All-Big Ten this season. Junior Whitney Jones made the grade for the second consecutive year, while sophomore Cambria Keefer earned the academic distinction in her first eligible year.
Juniors Nicolette Anico and Allie Yoffee made the list for the second straight year. Also making their first appearances on the honor roll in their first eligible year were sophomores Nicole Bowman and Anyssa Iliopoulos.
In 2018, Rutgers softball surpassed the previous year's win total by five, while setting a new program record and ranking second in the NCAA in double plays with 35. Along with Wells' All-Defensive Team award, the Scarlet Knights landed two on the All-Big Ten Second Team in senior first baseman Rebecca Hall and junior shortstop Jess Hughes.
