Rutgers Soccer Great Alexi Lalas Providing World Cup Analysis With Fox Sports

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – One of the most recognizable soccer personalities, Rutgers great and Emmy-nominated broadcaster Alexi Lalas is on-site to provide analysis of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ from FOX Sports' state-of-the-art studio in Moscow's iconic Red Square.
The only Rutgers soccer player to receive three All-America honors, Lalas helped Rutgers to its first No. 1 ranking in the history of the program during his senior year. The three-time Scarlet Knight captain was also named to a trio of Atlantic 10 All-Conference teams and a was a four-time Mid-Atlantic Region choice as Rutgers men's soccer went a combined 71-15-8 with Atlantic 10 Championships in 1990 and 1991 during his career.
After completing his Rutgers career, Lalas played in the central defense at the 1994 World Cup. The 1994 team tied Switzerland in their opening game, defeated Columbia and confounded the experts by advancing to the round of 16, where the team met eventual champion Brazil, losing 1-0 in a match where Lalas were heroic in the central defense.
Lalas was also a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team and the 1998 World Cup squad.
One of the first signings for Major League Soccer in preparation for their inaugural season in 1996, Lalas began his MLS career with the New England Revolution. He went on to play for the MetroStars, Kansas City Wizards and the Los Angeles Galaxy. After retiring for a season in 2000, he returned to the Galaxy and won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship in 2001 and the MLS Cup Championship in 2002.
Following retirement, Lalas went into management with the San Jose Earthquakes, New York Red Bulls and Los Angeles Galaxy before entering the broadcast booth.
Lalas' broadcasting career began with ESPN, where he was the lead studio analyst for the network's coverage of the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups. He also provided analysis on Major League Soccer, USMNT Team matches and international soccer events including the UEFA European Championships and FIFA Confederations Cups.
After joining Fox Sports, Lalas has contributed to coverage of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, England's FA Cup, Major League Soccer, USMNT matches, UEFA European Championship Qualifiers, FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015, and Copa America in 2016.
More recently, Lalas was one of five studio analysts and the first-ever soccer analyst nominated in the Outstanding Sports Personality category at the 39th annual Sports Emmys held in May.
Lalas also hosts the popular weekly podcast Alexi Lalas' State of the Union, discussing the biggest stories in the world of soccer.
