Women's X/C Gets Early Look At B1G Championship Course

Scarlet Knights Places Seventh at Greeno/Dirksen Invite Hosted By Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Rutgers women's cross country team placed seventh overall at the 29th annual Greeno/Dirksen Invitational on Saturday morning. The Scarlet Knights raced on the 6K Mahoney Golf Course getting an early taste of the course that will be used for the Big Ten Championships later in the season.
"In spite of the very humid conditions, the ladies competed very well," said head coach James Robinson. "The goal was to learn and compete on the course as we'll return in seven weeks for the Big Ten Conference championships."
The Scarlet Knights took seventh among the 12 schools with 177 points. No. 12 Michigan captured the team title with 20 points, with South Dakota placing second with 96 points and Iowa taking third place with 124 points. Host and fellow Big Ten school, Nebraska, took ninth with 209 points.
Sophomore Olympia Martin led RU in the second-straight race with the Ridgewood, New Jersey native taking 14th overall in a time of 22:04.8.
Junior Emma Bergman was the second Scarlet Knight over the finish line with a time of 22:34.1 and took 28th. Classmate Nadia Saponara logged a time of 22:56.2 to place 38th overall.
The Rutgers women's cross country team returns to racing at the Paul Short Invitational. The 6K race takes place on Saturday, Sept. 29 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
