Rossi Records Top 25 Performance at Mary Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Women's golf tied for 12th with a 905 (306-299-300) total at the 35th annual Mary Fossum Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at Forest Akers West Golf Course. Freshman Maeve Rossi paced the Scarlet Knights for the second consecutive tournament, carding a six-over 222 (76-72-74) to place tied for 24th in the 90-player field.
Plus one on par three holes and plus two on par fours, Rossi had 31 pars and 10 birdies against a field that featured four top 30-ranked programs and seven teams that earned berths to the 2018 NCAA Tournament. She helped the Scarlet Knights accumulate 155 pars and 28 birdies on the par 72, 6,334-yard course located on the Michigan State campus.
Sophomore Harriet Allsebrook (77-74-75) and graduate co-captain Ashleigh Greenham (75-76-75) also had confident showings, placing tied for 37th with 226 totals. Allsebrook eagled a par four hole from the fairway 70-yards out during the final round to complement her seven overall birdies. Greenham had a team-best 38 pars to place among the tournament top 10 in the category.
Juniors Carrie-Ann Lee and Ana Cortes completed the RU scorecard. Lee tied for 67th with a 235 (82-77-76), while Cortes tied for 74th with a 240 (78-80-82).
No. 23 Virginia won the tournament with a seven-under 857 (281-290-286), two strokes ahead of defending champion and No. 18 Michigan State. The Cavaliers' Anna Redding and the Spartans' Allyson Geer-Park placed atop the individual leaderboard with nine-under 207 efforts.
The Scarlet Knights finished tied with Toledo and ahead of Kansas State, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan in the 16-team field.
Rutgers, under the leadership of head coach Kari Williams, returns to the links at the Nittany Lion Invitational, Sept. 22-23, in University Park, Pa.
