No. 17 Field Hockey Downs No. 19 Delaware 2-1

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 17 Rutgers field hockey earned a road win Sunday, defeating No. 19 Delaware 2-1. Linde van Schaik and Kassidy Shetler scored goals for Rutgers (8-3, 1-3 Big Ten) to give the team its third ranked win of the season. The Blue Hens (5-6) led 10-5 in shots and 8-4 on corners in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams scored in the first half on their first shot and off their first penalty corner. Delaware struck first 11 minutes in, with Lisa Giezeman putting the Blue Hens ahead 1-0. That lead lasted just five minutes, with RU striking right back.

Awarded a penalty corner, Linde van Schiak inserted it. Alanna Gollotto stopped it to Daphne Groothuis, who bluffed the shot. She then passed it a waiting van Schaik at the post, who hammered it home for the equalizer.

In the second half, it took the Scarlet Knights just two minutes to take the lead. From the right side of the field, Nikki Profita sent a long pass through the circle, and Kassidy Shetler was stationed at the back post. The sophomore finished to give RU a 2-1 lead.

Delaware pressed to tie the game, but Rutgers' defense held strong. In the final five minutes, the Blue Hens were awarded three consecutive penalty corners. RU goalkeeper Gianna Glatz made three consecutive saves to preserve the lead and ensure the 2-1 final margin.

QUOTABLE - HEAD COACH MEREDITH CIVICO
