Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 7 Iowa Prevails over No. 18 Field Hockey

IOWA CITY, Iowa – No. 18 Rutgers field hockey (4-5, 0-2 Big Ten) saw sophomore Tayla Parkes score for the second consecutive game, and goalkeeper Gianna Glatz made six saves, but No. 7 Iowa (8-2, 3-0 Big Ten) came away with a 2-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Iowa scored the game's first goal. The Hawkeyes capitalized on a penalty corner late in first quarter to take a 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second quarter, the Scarlet Knights struck back. Milena Redlingshoefer started the play from the right side and sent the ball into the circle. Clayre Smith redirected a pass across the circle, and Tayla Parkes slid up to the ball and fired a shot home to even the score at 1-1.

Midway through the third quarter, the Hawkeyes retook the lead. The team attacked the net and created an open player in front to lead to the go-ahead goal.

The Scarlet Knights continued to apply pressure late into the game, including three shots on goal in the fourth quarter. The team had a great chance with just under five minutes to go, but a redirected shot was saved. Iowa would hold on for a one-goal margin of victory.
