Men’s Lacrosse Announces 2020 Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 16 Rutgers men's lacrosse today unveiled the schedule for the upcoming 2020 campaign. The Scarlet Knights will play a 14-game regular season slate, with seven home games at SHI Stadium and seven games on the road.

The season begins at home on February 1. The Scarlet Knights will face six teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season.

The team will open the year with nine non-conference games.RU will host Quinnipiac, St. John's, Stony Brook and Syracuse and travel to Army, Loyola, Princeton, Lafayette and Hofstra. The new additions to this year's schedule that RU did not face last year include Quinnipiac and Stony Brook.

The Scarlet Knights will host three conference games, welcoming Ohio State, Johns Hopkins and Penn State, and making trips to Michigan and Maryland. This year's Big Ten Tournament will be hosted by Penn State on April 30-May 2.

Rutgers will also host one scrimmage. The Scarlet Knights will host both Villanova and LIU on Saturday, January 25 at 1 pm and 4 pm.

All game dates and times are tentative and subject to change. Television schedules are not yet finalized, and may lead to game date and time changes.

Tickets are now on sale through the Rutgers ticket office and can be purchase via ScarletKnights.com or by calling 866-445-4678. Season tickets are on sale for $50 for all seven home games. Single game tickets are on sale for $10, and group discounts are available for $5 per tickets for groups of 20 or more.

Parking is available for free at the stadium on game days. Fans can register their cars for free parking online.

Rutgers earned a preseason ranking of No. 16 in the US Lacrosse Magazine preseason poll released this week. Seven of RU's opponents this season were also ranked by the publication, with another two in the 'also considered' section – No. 1 Penn State, No. 4 Maryland, No. 7 Syracuse, No. 8 Johns Hopkins, No. 13 Ohio State, No. 15 Loyola, No. 20 Army, Michigan and Princeton. Four of those preseason ranked opponents will visit RU – No. 1 Penn State, No. 7 Syracuse, No. 8 Johns Hopkins and No. 13 Ohio State.

The Scarlet Knights had a strong performance on and off the field last season. The team had three All-Americans, four All-Big Ten selections, four members of the North/South Team, five Scholar All-Americans, 24 Academic All-Big Ten selections, and a GSR of 97.
 
2020 Matchups

Saturday, February 1 vs. Quinnipiac – 1 pm
The earliest ever scheduled home game in program history, the Scarlet Knights will face QU for the second time in school history. The previous meeting came in 2004, a 17-4 Rutgers win. The Bobcats went 9-7 last season, advancing to the MAAC Finals.

Saturday, September 8 vs. St. John's, 3 p.m.
The two former BIG EAST rivals meet with RU holding a six-game winning streak, including a 19-15 win last season and a 22-5 advantage in the all-time series.

Saturday, February 15 at Army West Point, 12 pm.
This is the second-longest played series in program history, with 82 matchups dating back to 1923. The Black Knights went 13-5 last season, winning the Patriot League Tournament to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

Saturday, February 22 at Loyola, 1 p.m.
Rutgers will face Loyola for the second straight season, playing them on the road for the first time since 2008. Last season, the Greyhounds went 12-5 and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

Saturday, February 29 vs. Stony Brook, 12 p.m.
Rutgers resumes a series with the Seawolves, having last played them in 2018, a 17-4 win for the Scarlet Knights. Last season, SBU compiled a 9-6 record. 

Saturday, March 7 at Princeton, 1 p.m.
The longest-played series in Rutgers history, this game has been contested 97 times dating back to 1922. Last season, Rutgers won the battle for the Tots Meistrell Cup with a 9-8 home victory. 

Saturday, March 14 vs. Syracuse, 1 p.m.
Rutgers will face the Orange for the third straight season. On Syracuse's last visit to Piscataway, RU claimed a 14-10 victory. Last season, SU went 9-5 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

Tuesday, March 17 at Lafayette, 3 p.m.
Rutgers won 14-8 last season over the Leopards, staying unbeaten in 15 lifetime matchups with Lafayette. The series dates back to 1926.

Saturday, March 21 at Hofstra, 1 p.m.
Rutgers won 10-7 over the Pride last season to take a 16-15 advantage in the all-time series, and will return the trip with a road game this year.

Saturday, March 28 vs. Ohio State, time TBA
The Big Ten Conference opener comes at home against Ohio State. Last season, Rutgers went on the road and captured a 14-8 victory over the Buckeyes. RU is 2-0 against OSU as Big Ten members in home games, with two top-10 victories.

Saturday, April 4 vs. Johns Hopkins, time TBA
Rutgers and Johns Hopkins have faced off 39 times dating back to 1920. The Scarlet Knights claimed two wins over the Blue Jays in the 2016 season for six total wins lifetime.

Saturday, April 11 at Michigan, time TBA
The Scarlet Knights hold a 5-1 series advantage over the Wolverines. Last season, RU claimed an 11-9 victory, and have outscored UM 54-30 in the last four matchups.

Saturday, April 18 at Maryland, time TBA
The Scarlet Knights will travel to Maryland looking for their second lifetime win over the Terrapins. UM went 12-5 last season and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

Saturday, April 25 vs. Penn State, time TBA
The Scarlet Knights hold the series advantage over the Nittany Lions 43-24 after the two squads faced off consecutively in the regular season and Big Ten Tournament last season. PSU went 16-2 last season and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals.
