Mawot Mag Signs with Rutgers Men’s Basketball

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's basketball head coach Steve Pikiell announced today that Mawot Mag has signed to compete at Rutgers University. The native of South Sudan joins Dean Reiber and Oskar Palmquist as signees for the Scarlet Knights in the Class of 2020.

"We are thrilled to officially welcome Mawot Mag to the Rutgers family," Pikiell said. "Mawot fits the mold of another long, athletic and versatile player that can play multiple positions for us. He is an outstanding shooter who competes extremely hard on both ends of the floor. His toughness and competitiveness will serve him well as he helps us compete in the Big Ten conference. He has the potential to be an elite defender for us and I'm really excited about adding him to our program. Throughout the recruitment process, I was equally as impressed with him off the court as I was with him on the court. He is a high character individual with a great support system and he has been well coached while competing for one of the top high school programs in the nation."

"Mawot is an intense, focused, and very tough kid," said Phillipe Doherty, Co-Director at Prolific Prep. "He's a worker. He's been hit with unfortunate injuries because he plays so hard, he happens to find contact. He's a 6-7 power wing. He's physical and fast. His best offensive skill is the ability to shoot the basketball. He's an elite defender. He has defensive versatility in that he can guard multiple positions. And he can really rebound."

"I absolutely love the temperament and the vibe of the staff at Rutgers," Doherty continued. "I believe in Coach Pikiell. Culture is really important to him. He has an idea of the type of players and people that he wants in his program. The team is a reflection of the head coach – blue collar and hard working. Mawot really, really loved Rutgers, Coach Pikiell recruited him hard and I think it will be a great fit."
