Women’s Lacrosse Readies for Temple

Scarlet Knights host Owls Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse continues its homestand against Temple on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. matchup at HighPoint.com Stadium. The game, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was moved due to anticipated inclement weather.

Last Time Out
Sophomore attacker Taralyn Naslonski netted a career-high seven goals and added three assists to power a high-octane offense in the Scarlet Knights' season-opening 20-3 victory over LIU Brooklyn last Friday in Piscataway. Rookie Marin Hartshorn added six points on four goals and two assists and senior captain Abbey Brooks dished out three assists as six RU players contributed two or more points in the win.
The Scarlet Knights used an 18-7 advantage in draw controls to dictate the pace of the game from the opening whistle to the final train horn and outscored the Blackbirds, 16-3, in the first half to put the game out of reach before halftime.
Scouting Temple
Temple, picked fourth in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, dropped a low-scoring 7-4 matchup against Delaware last Friday in its season opener in Philadelphia. The Owls finished with a 24-13 advantage is shots on goal against the Blue Hens and held their opponent scoreless in the second half.
Junior Maddie Gebert, who was a 2019 preseason AAC selection, led the way with two goals. Goalie Maryn Lowell stopped six shots in the loss, while Courtney Taylor led the defensive effort with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Last Meeting
In last year's season opener, Rutgers dropped a 12-8 contest to Temple on Feb. 10, 2018 in Philadelphia. Samantha Budd tied the program single-game record with 12 draw controls in the loss, as RU won the draw control battle, 16-6, against the Owls.
Series History
Temple leads the all-time series against Rutgers, 7-22, which included wins in the last four meetings. RU last defeated the Owls back in 2014, a tight 11-10 win at home.
2019 Leadership Council
Rutgers announced its captains and leadership council for the 2019 season. Brooks and senior Christine DiLullo and Brooks will be the team captains, seniors Tess Howland and Regina Sharp and juniors Budd and Dakota Pastore will serve on the newly created leadership council.
All six student-athletes were named 2018 Spring Academic All-Big Ten selections, with Howland and Pastore both recognized as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars with 3.7 or higher GPA's. The Scarlet Knights were also named an IWLCA 2018 Division I Academic Honor team, posting a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the 2017-18 academic year.
Preseason Honors
Budd, DiLullo and Naslonski were named Big Ten Players to Watch last month. For Budd, this marks the second consecutive season the conference has selected her to the preseason watch list, also appearing as a sophomore in 2018. This is the first-career preseason player to watch recognitions for DiLullo and Naslonski.
